Kito and Grimes reveal their AI collaborative track "Cold Touch" [Listen]

Australian-born LA-based DJ and producer Kito has used Grimes’ Elf.Tech software, mimicking her voice, in a new demo ‘Cold Touch' — becoming Grimes’ first, official AI release

The track was teased across Kito’s socials last week, and caught praise from Grimes herself — who called it a “masterpiece” and garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and fellow artists.

The two artists decided to release this version as the first official release on Grimes' AI artist profile, which is available to stream via Mad Decent.

The Canadian artist has been very outspoken in her support about new evolving technologies taking to Twitter a few weeks ago saying that fans would be able to use her voice “without penalty” on AI generated music.

She further stated that she would split royalties 50/50 with any AI created music mimicking her voice.

Inspired by the resurgence of early-2000s dance music, the track is co-written between Kito, Fred Ball and Nina Nesbitt.

While it's hard to miss Grimes’ ethereal voice in ‘Cold Touch,’ the original vocals provided by vocalist Nina Nesbitt and then rendered on Elf.Tech.

The track is a hyper-pop, euphoric dance track with an underlying bubblegum bass hazed out with jungle breaks.

Speaking on the track, Kito explains: “‘Cold Touch’ is a song written from the perspective of an AI trying to understand love. I think our slightly weird and awkward relationship with using AI for creative expression is muddled because as things come out, we don’t actually know what involvement AI had, and we’re still figuring it out in real time.”
