How to be a female Dj with Deuce Manila
Deuce Manila (formerly known as Kat Dj and Patty Tiu), dubbed as the first female Dj duo in the Philippines, has transitioned to Patty Tiu taking the lead of directing the brand. This redefined brand now transcends its literal definition. It is now about creation of new, dynamic experiences, and unique interaction between the performer, co-performers, and the audience.
DjaneMag: Who came up with your nickname? What does it mean?
Deuce Manila: Deuce for two. The brand Deuce is a creation of new dynamic experiences and a unique interaction between the performer, co-performers, and the audience. A collaboration with different DJs, live artists, and the most important entity, YOU.
DjaneMag: Tell me please, how do you begin with music and DJing? Was it your dream from early years?
Deuce Manila: I started DJing back in 2011. I used to work as a club promoter and have always had the passion for dance music.
DjaneMag: Do you travel a lot? What countries or cities do you like most of all and why?
Deuce Manila: I travel around the Philippines most of the time for tours. I've traveled around Asia in the likes of Malaysia, Cambodia, Hong Kong for some performances too. I still love traveling around the Philippines for DJ gigs, the energy of the people/crowd are amazing!
DjaneMag: Do you think that «Dj world» is men's world? In your opinion is it harder for girl to become famous Dj?
Deuce Manila: I honestly think it is for everyone. It is much harder to be known as a female DJ in a male dominated industry.
DjaneMag: What challenges have you faced being a female DJ and how did you overcome them?
Deuce Manila: Being judged or perceived that female djs are only famous because of looks and marketing. I have overcome these challenges by showing my technical skill on the decks.
DjaneMag: Could you describe your feelings when you play music?
Deuce Manila: There's nothing I would rather do in the world than do what I do. That is what I feel every time I get on that stage to share my passion.
DjaneMag: What's the most difficult thing about your job?
Deuce Manila: Rest days and time with my family. I barely get enough rest due to the schedule of my gigs.
DjaneMag: Do you have any exclusive news for readers at this moment you wanna share?
Deuce Manila: I'm going to Las Vegas this year.
DjaneMag: Can you share your dreams and plans for future? What would you like to achieve?
Deuce Manila: My plan is to represent my country and bring us on a global scale. Once I have achieved that, I wish to help my brothers and sisters in the industry back home to reach their dreams on a global scale as well.
