China’s leading dance music festival, Storm, has announced it’s expanding to Australia in 2017
The festival juggernaut — which will hit nine Chinese cities as well as Taipei this year — will land in Sydney later in 2017, with full details to be announced at a later date.
The move was announced on Friday by Storm promoters A2LiVE, who are looking to position themselves as a key player in the lucrative Asian festival market. Since its inception in 2013 the festival has grown to become the biggest EDM event in China, hosting dance music A-listers like including Zedd, Skrillex, Tiesto, Avicii, RL Grime and Duke Dumont.
“This marks a milestone for the development of the Asian electronic music industry, and for A2LiVE, the pioneering company that is leading the charge,” said A2LiVE founder Eric Zho at their press conference on Friday. “With increasing numbers of international festivals taking aim at the enormous consumer market in China, the genre is getting more influences from outside its borders.”
“When China-born titan STORM goes abroad for the first time, pushing its blend of international electronic music stars outside its home country, China will finally become more cemented in the world view as a real pillar of the electronic music community.”
They’re the second international brand this year to announce expansion to Australia, after festival behemoth Ultra revealed it would be heading our way in 2018. It will hold a ‘Road To Ultra’ event in Melbourne next February, with the full festival taking place in Sydney and Melbourne in 2019.
