Sommer Ray Drops New Single and Talks DJ Career
Fitness icon turned DJ, Sommer opens up about her first club banger, live sets across the U.S., and empowering women in EDM
Sommer Ray is carving out her place in the music world with bold energy and a fast-growing presence behind the decks. Known globally for her impact in fitness, fashion, and beauty—with a following of over 55 million—Ray has recently shifted her spotlight to music. Originally from Denver, Colorado, she began DJing live in 2023, bringing her signature intensity and performance style to stages across the U.S. Her sets have already landed her in high-profile clubs and festivals, with even bigger stages on the horizon.
Her latest single, “Everybody’s Up (LaLaLa),” reworked by Danish powerhouse HEDEGAARD, is a bold, bratty summer banger already lighting up dancefloors — and signaling a confident new chapter in her career as a DJ and producer.
Though her fanbase initially grew through her powerful social media presence and modeling career, it’s her passion and dedication behind the decks that are turning heads in the dance music community. Balancing entrepreneurial ventures with a sharp focus on performance and production, Ray is fast becoming one of the most-watched new names in the global DJ circuit.
Now, with this high-energy release making noise across the scene and a follow-up track called “She’s A DJ” on the way, Sommer sat down with DJane Mag for an exclusive chat about her creative process, her tour life, and what’s next in her sonic journey.
Your recent track “LaLaLa (Everybody’s Up)” has such a bold, summer-ready vibe! How did the collaboration with HEDEGAARD come about?
HEDEGAARD’s sound has always stood out to me, it’s dark, powerful, and made for the club. We connected through mutual music friends, and when he heard the original version of “LaLaLa,” he immediately had ideas. His edit took the energy to a whole new level, and it just felt like the perfect match. I wanted a track that hit hard, and he understood that from the jump.
The song is packed with high-energy drops and brat-pop flair. What message or feeling were you aiming to share with this release?
I wanted it to feel like pure release, no overthinking, just full-body energy. It’s that moment when you're on the dancefloor with your friends, maybe a little reckless, definitely free. It’s bratty, bold, and meant to get you out of your head and into the moment.
You’ve previously worked with Martin Jensen — how was the creative process different this time with HEDEGAARD?
Martin and I created something super fun and feel-good, more of a pop-dance crossover. With HEDEGAARD, the vibe was darker, grittier, more underground. Both were amazing in their own way, but this one felt a bit edgier, and I loved pushing into that side of my sound.
Even with the refined production, your personality shines through the track. How important is it for you to bring your true self into your music?
It’s everything. Whether it’s music, modeling, fitness, whatever I’m doing, I have to feel like me in it, or it just doesn’t work. I’m not trying to be perfect or fit into a mold. I want my personality, my energy, and even my chaos to come through in every track.
This track feels like a summer anthem. Have you played it live yet — and how did the crowd react?
Yes, and the crowd went off! There’s this switch that flips when the beat drops, it’s like everyone’s bodies just move at once. Seeing people dance and scream the hook back is the best feeling. That’s why I do it.
You’ve been DJing live since 2023 and already hit some major stages. What have been the highlights of your North American tour so far?
Playing for college crowds has honestly been unreal. That energy is just different, no one’s too cool to dance, everyone’s screaming the lyrics, jumping, losing it in the best way. It’s pure chaos and I love it. Vegas daytime sets have been amazing too, but there’s something about showing up to a college town and feeling that raw, unfiltered hype that reminds me why I started doing this in the first place.
How do people react when they see you behind the decks now — especially fans who’ve followed you from the fitness and fashion world?
At first, there’s definitely some surprise. People are like, “Wait, she DJs now?” But then once they see I’m actually doing it, and loving it, it clicks. A lot of fans have followed me through so many chapters, so seeing them now dancing at my sets and supporting this side of me is the best kind of full-circle moment.
Do you adapt your sets based on the city or vibe of the crowd?
Absolutely. Every crowd is different, and reading the room is one of the most exciting parts of DJing. I’ll always go in with a plan, but I love switching it up on the fly, whether it's leaning more house, hiphop, or throwing in something unexpected to see how people respond. The crowd kind of becomes part of the set.

Your stage energy mirrors your social presence — do you see DJing as a new way to connect with your audience?
100%. Social media is where people first got to know me, but DJing brings that connection into real life. It’s not curated, it’s live. I can feel people’s energy, respond to it, and create a shared experience. That’s a whole different kind of connection, and it’s addictive in the best way.
We heard you have a new track coming up ‘She’s A DJ’ — can you tease what fans should expect?
Yes! I’m so excited for this one. ‘She’s A DJ’ is bold, cheeky, and super fun. It’s definitely a statement, it plays with the idea of owning your space in a scene that’s still so male-dominated, but in a way that’s playful and unapologetic.
How do you feel you’ve evolved as an artist between “LaLaLa (Everybody’s Up)” and ‘She’s A DJ’?
I’m still finding my sound, but with ‘She’s A DJ,’ I’m starting to tap into something that feels really me. I’m leaning more into the female DJ energy, owning that space, having fun with it, and making music that’s playful but still hits hard. It’s been cool to explore what that looks and sounds like as I grow into this side of my artistry.
Will ‘She’s A DJ’ keep the same bold and energetic vibe, or are you experimenting with something different?
It definitely keeps the bold energy, but this one’s sassier. It leans into more personality and has a cheeky, playful edge while still hitting hard on the drop. I’m always down to experiment, but if you liked the energy of “LaLaLa,” you’re gonna love this next chapter.
You have a following of over 55 million across platforms — how do you see your role in bringing your community into the dance music world?
Most people already know and love dance music, but I want to help create more space for women, especially women who don't always see themselves represented behind the decks. If my presence helps shift the narrative or opens the door for more girls to step into this world with confidence, that’s a win.
known for fitness, fashion, and entrepreneurship — how do those worlds influence your music and stage presence?
All of it shows up in the way I perform. Fitness gives me the energy and discipline to handle the pace of touring and being on stage. Fashion lets me play with identity and mood visually. And being an entrepreneur taught me how to take risks and stay true to my vision, even when it’s outside the norm. It’s all connected.
What’s been inspiring your music production lately?
I’ve been really into UK garage, bratty pop hooks, and raw club sounds. But more than anything, I’m inspired by real-life energy, messy nights out, being around people who are fully present, moments that feel loud and alive. I want my music to reflect that energy.
What’s your biggest dream right now as a DJ and artist?
To play a major festival with a full crowd screaming my lyrics back at me, that’s the dream. I also want to carve out a lane where I can bring my full personality into the dance world, and create space for other women to do the same.
