Sitara released her debut EP named SIMULACRA

Welcome Sitara -  DJ/Producer/Songwriter from Sydney, Australia and signed to Arrow Music Agency (US) for Artist Management. She released her debut album on Friday 9th March, 2018.

The whole EP was produced, written and performed by Sitara, including self-directed visuals which stunningly build on the complex narratives and themes that have guided my artistic direction in creating ‘Simulacra.’ “With my project, you’ll either get it or you won’t. It’s a particular taste and feeling. For all the like-minded people with whom it resonates with, I hope you discover a new side to yourself and the world, that you never knew existed.”

The EP artwork (attached) is a representation of the ‘new world collage’ – existing somewhere between projected self, commodity, animal & fantasy.

ORIGIN

‘Simulacra & Simulation’ is one of my favourite postmodern philosophical theories from Jean Baudrillard. I was first introduced to his ideas during Year 12, when creating my Extension 2 English major work. It eventually inspired the core essence of the underlying narrative, stylistic themes and risky forms containing my major work. Even though I was told I’d either fail or come out on top given how many risks I was taking, I didn’t mind. I had connected way too much with my project to consider something ‘safer.’ Anyway, it did pay off in the end. But the concept still consumed me throughout University. I probably used the same ideas found in my major work in around 50% of my Uni assignments oops.

I had to carry my take on Simulacra into art. The moment I started making music, I knew I wanted my first EP to embody the surreal ideas I just became so attached to in high school. Although my connection to Simulacra has changed and expanded overtime, given the growth of my own self-identifying perspectives, beliefs & priorities, creating this EP over the last year just became that much more meaningful to me. It’s enabled me to grasp a clear vision and purpose for the STARA project – what it sounds like, what it looks like and the complex narratives that live deep within it.

CONCEPT

To me, Simulacra represents living in a state of reverie, being lost in a fantasy, a daydream painted by you and me. It’s reality’s transformation into a simulation, replaced by representations, signs & symbols. It’s a paradoxical haze that conditions you and me.

SOUND

‘Simulacra’ embodies a bold, dusky soundscape that borrows from many musical realms and seamlessly comes together to form one complex melting point. Your new persona is triggered. The essential tones of mystery, eeriness and darkness will engulf your world through a sonic amalgamation inspired by Electronica, Trap, Hip Hop, South Indian Classical & everything Old-School. Simulacra bursts out passionately, diving into the madness orchestrated by STARA’s philosophical beliefs, fascinations and social rants contained in her mind. “I want to push myself and I want to break boundaries. I intentionally manipulated specific sounds that remind us of something we know, to retain a sense of familiarity towards our existing world, whilst capturing the real darkness of Simulacra.
