The Brazilian Tech House artist opens up about her journey from São Paulo to Malta, her elrow Island debut, and what it takes to build a career in Europe
Brazilian Tech House artist Lorena Fabbrini is set to make her debut at one of the most iconic and surreal festivals in the world, elrow Island Malta 2025 which takes place from August 1st to 4th. Known for its flamboyant themes and immersive stages, elrow Island has become a landmark destination in the global electronic calendar. Lorena will perform on August 4th, sharing the lineup with global heavyweights like Eats Everything and Arielle Free, further amplifying the impact of her appearance at the event. For her this moment means more than just a set, it is a reflection of her growth and resilience as an artist abroad.
Living in Malta for over two years, Lorena has immersed herself in the island’s thriving electronic scene. What started as a bold move across the Atlantic quickly became a career-defining decision. “Malta breathes electronic music. Every week there’s an amazing event with global artists, and all of it in a beach setting. Living here is a privilege,” she says.
In a candid conversation with DJane Mag, Lorena reflects on her growth, struggles, and what this new chapter means for her. Check out the full interview below.
What does playing at elrow Island Malta mean to you? What are your feelings and expectations?
It felt like a distant dream, and when I got the invite the lineup was already closed. One of the local organizers told me that people had actually requested me. That made it even more special!
How are you preparing for such a visually immersive and performative festival?
I want to showcase the Brazilian sound as much as possible and ride this wave we're on right now.
Will your set reflect the theme and aesthetic of elrow? Can we expect something unique?
The event's aesthetic is totally my vibe. My set will be packed with Tech House and a splash of Minimal Deep/Tech.
You've been living in Europe for over two years now. How was your adaptation to life in Malta and the European electronic scene?
The first year was tough. I had to expand my style and dive into genres like Downtempo, Organic House, and Afro House. At that time, Afro House hadn’t really taken off in Brazil, so I had to start from scratch. Now it’s second nature.
What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced building a career outside Brazil?
Some Brazilian subgenres just don’t work here, and that’s why some DJs who are huge in Brazil don’t get space in lineups abroad.
In your opinion, does Europe offer more structure and opportunity for emerging DJs?
I believe that if you do a good job, your growth happens organically. But I do feel that here there are fewer inner circles, and that really helps!
What advice would you give to other Brazilian DJanes who dream of living in Europe and making it in electronic music?
Leaving your comfort zone for the unknown is tough. You need patience and mental health. Don’t expect things to happen overnight—but always give your best.
What’s essential for someone building an international DJ career?
Having your English skills in check. When an opportunity shows up, you need to be ready to move forward.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
No. Every step I took was key to unlock the doors I'm walking through today.
Since releasing “Escobar”, how do you see your evolution as an artist?
Totally evolved. I still have that Tech House core, but I’ve added elements from new artists I’ve discovered and what people are vibing with now. Music trends shift just like fashion.
Who are your biggest influences right now?
I’m always checking out Cloonee and Mau P’s sets. I love Hugel’s Latin flavor. Lately, I’ve been vibing with Ayybo’s productions, too.
What’s next after elrow?
Right after elrow, I’ll play at the Our House festival in Malta, presented by James Hype and Meduza. It’s two days and four parties, and I’ll be sharing the lineup with Solardo, Nora En Pure, Ferreck Dawn, Tita Lau, Mëstiza, and Martin Ikin. I think this is going to be another big milestone for me.
