The name Kremlin, in the nightlife, is synonymous with electronic music where the Undergound rules. Since the start of its new administration in June 2016, the Kremlin has regained its space on the night of the Capital and is once again the favorite club of many locals and visitors to our beautiful city. This is where the best international and national djs are playing and also has Dub Tiger as resident, dj who has excelled both in Portugal and beyond. The Kremlin occupies an area of 350 m2 of an old convent, in the area of Santos. Keeping the original moth, several arches of ogive stone and rough stone floor, the interior decoration has been modernized. The lights, sound system and DJ booth were also upgraded to gain a new place in space. The Kremlin offers, in addition to the brand new VIP Zone, three bars and a dance floor.

We had chance to talk with General Manager/CEO and artist booker of Kremlin club - Filipe Martins.

DJANEMAG: Can you tell about yourself? How did you start a work in the club? How long do you personally work out there? What are your responsibilities?

Filipe Martins: My name is Filipe Martins. I'm a General Manager/CEO and artist booker of the club. This new administration is running the club since June 2016. We started this project because its a mythical club, really well known in Portugal and also abroad as it was one the best of world in the 90's, but it was closed as regular weekly club, only opened for some events. So we wanted to give this Underground Cathedral a new life, and its going really well.

DJANEMAG: When was the club opened? What is the story of club`s name? What is the capacity, politic of club, price?

Filipe Martins: With a new team - since June 2016, first opened in 1988 December, 22nd.  The story of the name I don't really know. 600 capacity, Underground Club (Techhouse, Techno, House), entrance around 12€ including 1 drink.

DJANEMAG: What are the hallmarks of your club that distinguish you from other clubs in your city and in your country?

Filipe Martins: Its a Unique club for several reasons. The Music, The History, The Atmosphere, The Crowd... Its the kind of place that you really only know if you go...

DJANEMAG: Does your club work in one musical style, which one and why?

Filipe Martins: Underground Club (Techhouse, Techno, House)

DJANEMAG:Does the style of music depend on the party or on the day of the week?

Filipe Martins:yes, but only between the genres above

DJANEMAG: What are the main differences between a Female DJ performs on the stage and a male DJ?

Filipe Martins: It depends, but for sure the sensuality goes for the Ladies.
But as i said it depends. Some ladies know how to "beat up people to" lol...
We already had at Kremlin: Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Wite, Deborah De Luca, Monika Kruse, Miss Sheila, Lola, Jade and more. All of them were great but all different.

DJANEMAG: By what principle do you choose DJs to perform at your club?

Filipe Martins: Specially the music of course.

DJANEMAG: Do you follow our top100djanes ranking and what advice could you give us?

Filipe Martins: To be honest we don't really follow any artists top. But my advise is that the top should be more about talent that visibility.

DJANEMAG: Does your club have as resident female DJs and how could you characterize their work?

Filipe Martins: No resident female, only regular ones. Te work of the local female djs is great, a lot of talent in national djs in general and of course on the ladies as well.

DJANEMAG: Do you have favourite club in the world, which work you try to copy or do you create an individual club style with its own specifics?

Filipe Martins: About thematics, decor, etc we try to the best in being original in everything we do. Regarding in artist selection its difficult to be original in these days.

DJANEMAG: Which of the female DJs do you consider the best in the world and who would you like to see djing in your club?

Filipe Martins: We can't choose only one, but every DJane we chose to play in our club so far did great shows. Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Wite, Deborah De Luca, Monika Kruse, Miss Sheila, Lola, Jade.

DJANEMAG:  What was the most curious moment in your work in the club you remember for the last year? Share it with our readers?

Filipe Martins: For me personally was when the 1st creator of the Club visited us for the 1st time and went out on happy and nostalgic tears.
In 90's he made the Kremlin big and then and it was closed, was like a big elephant sleeping that no one dared to wake up.
So when we did it, were very few who believe, so was a great pleasure and also curious to see someone like him, that as a big national company group reacting like that, because for him as Kremlin was he 1st disco for him, was like the 1st born, going so well again was a mix of nostalgic and hapinnes.
It felt great!

DJANEMAG: Name 3 the most important qualities of a DJane.

Filipe Martins: 1 Music
2 Mixing well, and don't mean beat match, i mean doing and taking people on a journey
                         3 Music

DJANEMAG:  Who is responsible for the meeting and taking care of a DJ in your club? Do you find this work tedious? Or do you think it is the most pleasant part?

Filipe Martins: Most of the time me and my partner Fernando Rodrigues. I don't fin it tedious, i love to meet people, so if they are nice people its a really pleasant part.

DJANEMAG:  What time a headliner plays in your club and how long?

Filipe Martins: Usual from 3am to 5am. 2h set.

DJANEMAG:  What was the most popular song/track in your club in 2017?

Filipe Martins: Cola from Camel Phat and the classic Domino from Oxia with new mixes

DJANEMAG:  What was the best party in your club in 2017 and why?

Filipe Martins: We had several favourites. Stereo with Chus & Ceballos and Ballet Electronico with Monika Kruse.

DJANEMAG: How strong do you love your work and do you see your future only in this work or would you like to try yourself in smth else?

Filipe Martins: I love my work to the point i don't see it as work. Feeling in get up every day and just work work work.
I already do a lot in the same business area so i think i will stay in this business for long time. I'm running Kremlin in Lisbon, I have a successful label called Plastik Galaxy, and i'm a dj and producer, artist name Dub Tiger. links bellow, and also attached.
