Dominique Jardin Talks Freedom, Self-Confidence & Drops New Single [Interview]

The Austrian DJ and producer opens up about personal empowerment, her evolving sound, and the story behind “NSA (No Strings Attached)”, out now via Up All Night

Austrian DJ and producer Dominique Jardin is back with one of her most personal releases to date. Her new single, “NSA (No Strings Attached)”, out now via Up All Night, fuses Melodic House and Techno into a bold, emotionally charged track about connection, confidence, and freedom. Rooted in self-expression and independence, it’s the kind of record that resonates as much on a crowded dancefloor as it does in headphones.

The title may suggest a casual relationship, but the message behind the music runs much deeper. NSA is about claiming your space and living by your own rules — without judgment, pressure, or need for explanation. With support from Tiësto, Meduza, and more, Dominique’s signature sound continues to evolve into something melodic, moody, and uncompromisingly powerful.

We caught up with Dominique to talk about the inspiration behind the track, her artistic evolution, how the industry is changing for women, and what’s coming next in her journey.

“NSA (No Strings Attached)” blends Melodic House & Techno with a message of freedom and confidence. What inspired this track — was it drawn from a personal experience?

Absolutely — NSA definitely comes from a personal place. It was inspired by that moment when you realize you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone — when you choose yourself, your freedom, and your own rules. I wanted the track to reflect that energy: bold, confident, and unapologetically free. Musically, I combined the emotional depth of melodic house with the driving force of techno to mirror that inner strength and independence. It’s about reclaiming your space and owning it with confidence.

The title refers to no-commitment relationships. Do you think the dancefloor is also a space where people seek emotional and physical freedom?

The dancefloor is one of the few places where people can fully let go. It’s a space where there are no expectations, no labels, and no judgment. You can express yourself physically, emotionally, even spiritually — and you’re surrounded by others doing the same. Whether someone’s escaping something, celebrating freedom, or just living in the moment, the dancefloor gives people permission to connect — with themselves, with others, with the music without needing to explain why. That’s powerful.

Your sound is described as moody, melodic, and made for movement. How would you describe your evolution as a producer and DJ over the years?

It’s been a journey of discovering who I am. Not just as an artist, but as a person. When I started out, I was focused on high-energy, crowd-pleasing sets — big drops, big reactions. But over time, I’ve fallen in love with storytelling through sound. My music has become deeper, more emotional, and more intentional. As a producer, I’ve become more fearless — I trust my creative instincts and allow space for vulnerability in the music. And as a DJ, I’ve learned to read a crowd on a deeper level and create journeys that feel personal but still hit hard on the dancefloor. It’s not just about playing tracks anymore — it’s about creating a feeling.

Which artists or recent experiences have most influenced your current sonic direction?

I’ve also been really inspired by artists like Solomun, Dom Dolla, Mau P, and Miss Monique. Solomun’s storytelling through music is unmatched — he takes you on a real journey. Dom Dolla and Mau P have such a fresh, modern energy that pushes boundaries in a fun way. And Miss Monique is such a boss — I love how she blends melodic depth with powerful grooves, and how she stays true to her own lane while commanding massive stages. All of that has influenced where I’m going as a producer: melodic and moody, but always with a beat that moves you. I want my tracks to hit both in the club and in your soul.

You've received support from names like Meduza and Tiësto. How did that feel? Has that kind of recognition changed how you approach your music?

It’s honestly surreal — those are artists I’ve looked up to for years. When someone like Tiësto or Meduza plays your track, it’s not just a personal win — it’s a signal that your sound is connecting beyond your immediate circle. It gave me a huge boost of confidence and also a sense of responsibility to keep growing, evolving, and raising the bar. That kind of recognition didn’t change who I am musically, but it definitely pushed me to go deeper and refine how I create. I’m more focused on building timeless records — tracks that sound great on the big stages, but also have emotional weight and staying power. It reminded me that staying true to your sound pays off — as long as you do it with quality, intention, and heart.

Is there anyone you still dream of collaborating with or sharing the stage with?

Definitely — I’d love to collaborate with Miss Monique someday. I really connect with her melodic yet powerful style, and I think our energies would complement each other in an exciting way. Also working with someone like Meduza would be a dream — their sense of space and emotion in tracks is next-level. And sharing the stage with Solomun would be a huge moment for me — not just because of his status, but because of the way he creates such deep, immersive musical journeys.

As a woman in the electronic music scene, do you feel the industry is changing when it comes to representation and opportunities? What would you say to young female DJs and producers starting out today?

The industry is definitely shifting. Slowly, but surely. We’re seeing more women on major lineups, more female-led labels and collectives, and more visibility overall. But there’s still work to be done, especially when it comes to representation behind the scenes — in production, booking, and leadership roles. As a woman, you still have to work twice as hard to be taken seriously, especially in certain corners of the scene. But that’s also why it’s so important to show up, own your space, and support each other. The more we rise, the more we open doors for the next generation. To any young female DJs or producers out there: don’t wait for permission. Start where you are, learn your craft, trust your taste, and stay consistent. There will be challenges, but your voice and vision matter. And there’s room for you — not just to fit in, but to lead.

After “NSA”, what’s next? Any upcoming projects, collabs, or tour news you can share with us?

Absolutely — I’ve got some exciting things in the works. I’m currently finishing a couple of new tracks and I will be releasing every month until the end of the year. Expect some atmospheric builds, unexpected drops, and a really personal track that I’m especially proud of. On the collab front, I’m in the studio with a couple of producers I admire — we’ve got some fresh ideas that blend our sounds in a way I can’t wait to share.
