Anna Prior Debuts EP 'Almost Love' with Captivating Video for 'Nervous'

Anna Prior, renowned DJ, producer, and drummer, has released her debut EP, Almost Love, under the House Anxiety label

This seven-track collection highlights Anna’s rhythmic approach to electronic music, reflecting her deep dive into crate-digging and her Soho Radio show, The Beat Palace. The label she founded, also called The Beat Palace, champions female and non-binary DJs and producers. Anna describes her DJ sets as “explorative missions into the rhythmic unknown,” with influences drawn from a ‘90s musical upbringing and synth-led sounds reminiscent of the ‘80s and mid-2000s’.

Discussing the cathartic themes of the EP, Anna shares:

"This EP was written as a reaction to my growing obsession with dance music and nightlife culture. It’s an exploration of me trying to figure out how to enjoy club culture in a sober way—what would be the music that I’d like to hear without the influence of substances. It’s a study of the perfect night out for me. During the lyric writing process, I felt the need to let a few demons out of my closet (those demons can be seen in the video for 'Tech Não'). Although the music for Almost Love began in 2020, I only put words to the music in 2023. It became a sort of love letter to myself, a way of shoving emotions into musical boxes and finally letting some things go.”

The Almost Love EP sees Anna collaborating with James Greenwood (AKA Ghost Culture), known for his work with Dan Avery, Kelly Lee Owens, HAAi, and Alison Goldfrapp. The EP also features contributions from Lisbon-based producer Moullinex and Parisian trio PPJPáula, Povoa, and Jerge, who have previously collaborated with Christine and the Queens and Myd.

Leading up to the release, Anna received support from The Guardian, CRACK, Resident Advisor, Disco Pogo, and more, with BBC 6 Music providing strong backing on the airwaves.

Lyrically inspired by the existential poetry of 19th and 20th-century Portuguese romantics, which she discovered during cherished times in Lisbon, this EP is Anna’s love letter to herself. She describes it as being about things, people, and moments that are just out of reach—of ‘almost’ being there, but not quite yet.

Visually, Anna collaborated with Tom Furse on a series of unsettling AI-directed videos, further establishing the eerie aesthetic world she is building, centered around the liminal hours spent in clubs. The final instalment, the video for ‘Nervous,’ coincides with the EP release date.

"The video for Nervous is the party to end all parties—PARTY (The Best Of). It’s everything we discovered in the previous three videos and then some. I wanted it to feel like you’re laying in your bed (or on a stranger’s sofa?) the morning after the party when the flashbacks start and you’re trying to piece together the night before."

Press shots in collaboration with photographer Daniel Mutton and creative director Morgan Hislop maintain a consistent visual narrative.

Live set highlights include supporting 2manydjs in Paris, Palm Trax in Lisbon, as well as performances at Latitude, Spiritland, and NYC’s fabled The Lot Radio.
